Sven Reischauer
  • Head of the Cardiac Regeneration Research Group, Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany
  • Research Scientist, Kerckhoff Cardiovascular Research Institute, Germany
  • Associate Professor, Justus Liebig University Giessen

After earning his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, Dr. Reischauer completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Francisco. His work focuses on heart regeneration, primarily using zebrafish models and stem cell biology. His team has made significant discoveries uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms that enable complete cardiac tissue regeneration without scarring—a rare process in mammals. Among his notable achievements is identifying a key transcription factor essential for blood vessel and blood cell formation, as well as developing adult zebrafish models to study cardiac repair. With an h-index of 16 and over 1,500 citations, his work is recognized for its impact in advancing cardiac regeneration and cardiovascular disease research.
