After completing a PhD from University of Strathclyde (UK) in 2005, Dr Lim spent 4 years post-doc research at The Hatter Cardiovascular Institute (University College London, UK). Shiang Lim’s research focuses on cardiac regeneration, stem cell therapy, tissue engineering, and molecular therapeutics. His team has made impactful contributions, including identifying a novel population of human cardiac stem cells and developing innovative methods for in vivo stem cell transplantation and sustained secretome delivery, supported by recent federal funding. They also created a multicellular human cardiac organoid from hiPSCs that better mimics native heart tissue, serving as a valuable model for disease research and drug screening. Additionally, Lim’s team is developing small molecules targeting mitochondrial fission protein Drp1 and nanoparticle-based delivery systems to enhance cardiac repair. His work is highly influential in the field (h-index of 39), and aims to translate regenerative approaches into clinical therapies for heart disease.
